WHO Barcelona course on health financing for universal health coverage

    18 – 22 March 2019 Coordinated Universal Time
    Barcelona, Spain

WHO/Europe is pleased to announce the next offering of the annual WHO Barcelona Course on Health Financing for Universal Health Coverage, a week-long intensive course offered through its WHO Barcelona Office for Health Systems Strengthening of the Division of Health Systems and Public Health.

The deadline for receiving applications is 16 January 2019. Take a look at the course brochure and apply now!

    Programme

Addressing the overarching theme of universal health coverage, the Course will review policy instruments to improve health systems’ performance through better health-financing policy.

The Course is built around 5 modules: coordinating reform, raising revenues, pooling health revenues, purchasing, and designing a benefit package. Each module will include interactive discussions between participants and trainers, throughout which many examples of practical experience from the WHO European Region will be shared.

The course will be delivered in English with simultaneous interpretation into Russian.

    Target groups

The Course is designed for policy-makers in the health sector or in charge of social policy, senior managers of service-provider organizations and experts involved in health system reform. Potential participants are expected to have prior generic training on and extensive work experience in health systems.

This course is exclusively for participants from the WHO European Region. Please see the link at the bottom of the page for a list of all Member States of the Region.

A maximum of 50 participants will be accepted.

    Registration fee

To take part in the Course, accepted participants will be charged a registration fee of €100. This fee is non-refundable upon cancellation of attendance. WHO covers the costs of tuition, course materials, coffee breaks and lunches on all 5 days of the Course, and 1 evening reception with dinner.

    Venue

The course will be held at Casa de Convalescència, a splendid example of late modernist architecture in Barcelona.

    Application

Applicants are invited to submit a completed online application, using the form available below. Please note that acceptance to the course is not automatic. Selection of participants will be based on the relevance of course topics to applicants’ work functions, level of previous training on health systems strengthening and language abilities.
